One of my co-workers is borrowing a bit from his home-town radio station where every Friday the station receptionist hosts a segment called Friday Funk, highlighting a different 70s funk song each week. He's asked a handful of us if we'd be interested in playing along, and while my repotire of 70s funk is far from extensive I was certainly game to participate, especially since alphabetically I got to go first so I wouldn't have to worry about finding something new if my first pick was already taken.
Behold my contribution to our first office installment of Friday Funk:
What? Two Friday Grooves in a row?! Shocking!!! To celebrate today is a double groove kind of day to share two of my current favorites.
I never expected I'd be enjoying Macklemore as much as I am but dude really owns some word action. I'm loving this beat and it's been my pick me up this week, inspiring me greatly when I'm feeling defeated. Also, who can argue with wolves, men riding camels, kilt-wearing brass players, pirate ship parties and more?
It is also as good a time as any to admit it: I like country music. I've only just started watching Nashville out of curiosity and am not only enjoying it, I'm LOVING the music, this one in particular. It's a great calm-down counter after breaking through the roof.
It returns! Today's Friday Groove is courtesy of a friend I met online through World of Warcraft. Yes, I know there are all sorts of eyebrow raising things in that sentence, you'll just have to deal. The characters in the game each have a distinctive dance and when I commented on one of the new styles reminding me of the Push Me Pull You dance from the original Dr. Doolittle, she said she thought it was actually inspired by this guy:
Are you prepared for awesome? Are you sure?? Alrighty, carry on.
I know it's Wednesday but I'm going out of town for a long weekend trip so that makes it MY Friday! My sister and I took this House dance class once, which was both amazing and baffling, and this was the song the teacher taught with. It's the perfect blend of chill and funk, keeps you going but at a more relaxed pace.
Today's offering actually has a story behind it. Whether or not I'll get to that story in a timely fashion, well, who knows but I'm going to try!
In the meantime sample a song that seemed to pop up fatefully during plethora of some of my more shadowy moments (and try to ignore the fact that it's Christina >.<).
This song always relaxes me, makes me want to close my eyes and drift away to daydream Neverland and I never want it to end. Her voice is so clear, crisp and soothing, I love just about every thing Sade sings.
Today's groove is pretty jiggy! In honor of hitting the road this afternoon to spend the weekend in the country with the family on the river I'm sharing one of our favorite country road cruising songs.
I love her voice and fell more in love with the song after watching the video. I'm always, always drawn to dancing, particularly when it moves you with the story it tells.
The video and song have a haunting beauty to them but even more significant were the feelings it invoked afterwards of uncertainty at which side of the story I would put myself on.
Let's see if we can make this a somewhat weekly offering.
Today's Groove: Touch & Go by Stacy Clark. I simply don't have enough words for how much I love this song, this video, this girl. Makes me feel like the inside of a chocolate lava cake in the very best possible way.
